Our Story

Better Story Ministries was started by MGF Missionaries, Andrew and Sarah de Kanter, after they lost their firstborn son, Moses, to suicide. When Moses went to a public university, he encountered disenchanted students trying to live out secular scripts that lacked the power to give their lives meaning and hope. While there, Moses began to suffer with deep depression and hopelessness himself. Under the weight of his declining mental health and spiritual attack, Moses eventually took his life. 

As a result of this heart-wrenching tragedy, Andrew and Sarah have been given a burden for young adults Moses' age who desperately need to encounter the person and work of Jesus Christ as revealed in the gospel story. Better Story Ministries exists to re-enchant young adults with the gospel in the context of safe and loving relationships with college students of all different nationalities and cultures at the University of Louisville. 

Our Purpose

We exist to reenchant young adults with the better story of the true, good, and beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ and to equip others to do the same.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe in one God who created everything and who eternally exists as a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • We believe the Bible is inspired by God and authoritative in all it teaches.

  • We believe all people are made in God’s image and deserving of respect. We also believe all people are sinful and in need of salvation.

  • We believe Jesus is fully God and fully man. He was born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life. He died on the cross for our sins. He rose from the dead. He now sits at the right hand of God the Father, having defeated sin, death, and the devil.

  • We believe the only hope for our salvation from sin and eternal separation from God is found in the atoning death of Jesus for us on the cross and his victorious resurrection from the grave. All people are called to receive this salvation by turning from their sin and receiving Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates sinners, unites them to Jesus and his body, the church, and works in them to make them more and more like Jesus.

  • We believe that Jesus is coming back, and that God will one day raise all people from the dead and judge them according to how they responded to Jesus and the salvation he offered.
